Dr. Delplanche visits Paul Patterson Elementary School

Our very own Dr. Delplanche recently visited the 3rd and 4th grade students at Paul Patterson Elementary School in Hillsboro, OR and presented to them about oral health. He taught them about orthodontics and the importance of brushing and flossing to maintain good oral hygiene. He spent about 2 hours at the school, and each student received a goodie bag filled with a toothbrush, toothpaste, brushing and flossing instructions (and a word search, all in a cool recyclable grocery tote) which they can keep at the school to brush after lunch.

Additionally, each class was given an “Eggsperiment Experiment” to take with them to show how teeth can start to turn brown and yucky if you go several days without brushing them. One hard-boiled egg was soaked in vinegar without toothpaste and the other one was soaked in vinegar with toothpaste on the egg. The egg with the toothpaste stayed white, while the one without turned brown and formed a film around the egg, like your teeth can if you don’t brush regularly.

We had a great time at the school, and we hope the kids learned a lot too! You can see pictures of our trip by visiting our Facebook page.
