Meet Sharon, An Invisalign Patient

At Raleigh Hills Orthodontics, we use traditional braces on many of our patients, but we also use Invisalign clear aligners on those who are good candidates.  As a Board Certified Orthodontist, Dr. Delplanche has the knowledge and training to know what to look for in a patient to see if they will be a good candidate for Invisalign. If you have been thinking about orthodontics for yourself or would like to know more about Invisalign, give us a call today! Our exams are complimentary and we would love to help create your ideal smile!

It is a common misconception that Orthodontics is just for kids. Orthodontics can be done at any age; in fact we currently have many adults in traditional braces and Invisalign.  Dr. Delplanche recently finished an Invisalign case on an adult.  Sharon was a very motivated patient with a chief complaint of crowding of her lower teeth.  Sharon finished her Invisalign in 13 months and she did a fantastic job at following instructions and wearing her aligners as instructed. Sharon took some time to answer a few of our question about the treatment-

Why did you decide to have orthodontic treatment?

I was always self-conscious about my teeth and hated that my teeth were crooked. I also had bite problems so my jaws were often fatigued from my bite not aligning properly. While I was still raising three children, I never felt spending the money on braces on myself was practical.  After my children were all grown adults, I finally decided to do something about my crooked teeth.

Did you have any fears or apprehensions about having orthodontic treatment as an adult?

Yes, at my age, two or more years seemed like a long time to wear traditional braces to correct the issues with my teeth. When I found out about the option to use Invisalign I was delighted the process would not take as long as traditional braces.  I also liked the idea of having the option to remove my aligners.  Braces are 24/7 and Invisalign gives you a tiny bit of flexibility.

Was it difficult to wear your Invisalign aligners?

Invisalign treatment was easy and painless.  There is nothing to poke you, just smooth plastic in my mouth.  Every two weeks when I needed to change to the next set of aligners, I would find them a little uncomfortable for about 24 hours, but I knew if I wore them, the discomfort would go away.  I usually put the new aligners on at bedtime, so I would be sleeping for the first 8 hours of wearing them.  By the next morning, the discomfort was gone. I had slept through the time it takes to get my mouth comfortable with going from one aligner to the next.

What surprised you the most about wearing Invisalign aligners?

I was very surprised when I first inquired about braces that Invisalign aligners would actually take less time than traditional braces to fix my teeth. It was because of the specific concerns that I had that made me a good candidate and would make my treatment time less.  I was also delighted with how painless the process was.  I liked the flexibility of not wearing the aligners for a few hours if I wanted to go somewhere special.  I was very careful to wear the aligners 24 hours a day, with very few exceptions.

Are you satisfied with your new smile?

I am very happy with my new smile! I have straight teeth and I also have no jaw alignment issues. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being exceptional, I am a 10!  Dr. Delplanche did a fantastic job and delivered the exact product he said he would when I was first evaluated.  He told me he would straighten my teeth with Invisalign and correct my bite and he did within the timeframe I had hoped for.
